Vegetable Oils In Cosmetics: Innovative And Traditional Raw Materials
Argan Oil
Derived from the argan tree, Morocco’s flagship product is rich in vitamin E, omegas 6 and 9 and antioxidants.
There are actually two different types of this oil: the first is extracted from roasted kernels and used in food products while the second is extracted from unroasted kernels and traditionally used in hair care (prevents hair loss) and skincare (eczema, dry skin) products.
More specifically, this second type of oil is currently used in anti-wrinkle, moisturizing and conditioning creams and in hair care products for dry hair, but also to strengthen nails and relieve joint pain.
Shea butter
Shea butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree, which grows in the savannahs of West and Central Africa. Traditionally used in African cooking, it is also known for its moisturizing and skin softening properties.
Today, the demand for shea butter is growing and the substance is increasingly used in cosmetics, including skincare products (for hydration, softness, eczema, dry hands etc.) and hair care products (for hydration, shine, dry and brittle hair).
Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is known for its use on dry, aging, and sensitive skin.
A rich source of vitamins A and D, it softens, moisturizes and protects skin (from dryness and the sun), as it helps regeneration and restores elasticity. It also strengthens hair and promotes regrowth, while protecting it from the sun.
Almond oil
Native to Asia and the Middle East, almond oil has been used since ancient times to soften and moisturise the skin, with its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Rich in vitamins A and E, it is also used to remove makeup, in particular waterproof makeup,
and can nourish hair and help prevent dandruff.
